So, like I mentioned, this whole thing started after my long-term relationship ended. It hit me harder than I expected. Years just… poof.
The Bottom Dropped Out
One day, everything was normal. The next, it wasn’t. We just couldn’t make it work anymore.
It was a tough conversation, an even tougher few weeks. I felt pretty lost, to be honest.
Time for a New Chapter
After a while, I knew I couldn’t just sit around. I needed to do something different. For me, for my own head.
My friends were great, but they couldn’t fill the void. I needed a new perspective, new people.
I wasn’t looking for a relationship. I was looking for connection.
Tinder ★★★☆☆
Everyone knows Tinder, right? It was one of the first ones I tried because, well, it’s Tinder.
It felt a little like scrolling through a catalog at first. Lots of swiping.
I wasn’t really sure what I was looking for, but I gave it a shot.
Pros:
- Huge user base, lots of profiles.
- Easy to use, very straightforward.
- Good for quick, casual chats.
Cons:
- Can feel superficial, based mostly on looks.
- Lots of ghosting, messages drop off.
Tinder was okay for dipping my toes in, but it didn’t really click for what I needed.
Badoo ★★☆☆☆
Badoo was another one that popped up. It seemed like it had a bit more going on than just swiping.
You can see who liked you, and there are more ways to connect. It felt a little less frantic.
But the connections weren’t really there for me.
Pros:
- Good for international connections.
- Features like ‘people nearby’ are helpful.
- Offers video chat functionality.
Cons:
- Interface can be a bit cluttered.
- Too many fake profiles sometimes.
Badoo had some cool features, but it didn’t quite deliver on the genuine connection I sought.
Tagged ★★☆☆☆
Someone mentioned Tagged in a forum, so I checked it out. It’s more of a social network with dating elements.
It had games and groups, which was a different vibe. More relaxed, less intense.
I chatted with a few folks, but nothing really stuck.
Pros:
- Social features like games and virtual gifts.
- Good for meeting people with similar interests.
- Less pressure than traditional dating apps.
Cons:
- Can feel dated in its design.
- Sometimes hard to tell who’s serious.
Tagged was interesting, definitely different. But it felt more like a game than a way to really connect.
Compare the Apps
Part 2
But the app that changed everything came later…
I almost didn’t download it. Here’s what happened when I did.
